Līhuʻe – Kauaʻi Island Utility Cooperative’s (KIUC) Member Services and Communications Manager, Beth Amaro, was honored by Pacific Business News for the 2025 Women Who Mean Business awards. The awards recognize 31 women in Hawaiʻi who have demonstrated excellence in both business and community leadership.
At KIUC, Beth oversees internal and external communications and services to over 33,000 residential and commercial members. This includes community engagement and service projects, grants, and legislative priorities. KIUC led the state of Hawaiʻi in renewable energy generation at 57.9% renewable in 2023, and posted the lowest electricity rates in the state from May 2022-July 2024. KIUC is a not-for-profit electric cooperative owned by its members and governed by an elected board of directors.
“Beth is deeply involved in our community and deserving of this recognition. Her work ethic and business acumen have benefited many organizations and people on Kauaʻi,” said President and CEO David Bissell. “We are very proud to have her representing us at KIUC.”
Beth’s longstanding record of service for the residents of Kauaʻi includes positions at the County of Kauaʻi as Public Information Officer, Director of Communications, Director of Economic Development, Chair of the Board of Water Supply, member of the Civil Service Commission and member of the Kamehameha Schools Association of Kauaʻi.
Currently, Beth serves on boards for the Kauaʻi United Way, Hawaiʻi Foodbank-Kauaʻi, and Kauaʻi Chamber of Commerce. In October, Beth was appointed by Governor Josh Green to the state Commission on Salaries.
