Where Are They Now? Scott Lopez, Youth Tour 2004
By Allison Young
For this issue, we talked story with Scott Lopez, an alumnus from KIUC’s first Youth Tour in 2004. Scott is from Kaumakani and graduated from Waimea High. He received a Bachelor of Arts in visual communication from Hawaiʻi Pacific University. Scott lives in Līhuʻe and works for ʻOhana Pacific Health.
Aloha, Scott. What’s your favorite memory from Youth Tour?
My favorite memory is from exchanging our local cultures on the long bus rides with our Kansas tour mates. In my experience, we were a lot alike—laidback, humble and respectful. But watching our friends try hurricane popcorn and li hing mui seeds and gummies was fun!
Tell us about your path after graduation.
I graduated from Hawaiʻi Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts in visual communication and ran a successful wedding film company until 2020. Now I work as an IT systems analyst for ʻOhana Pacific Health.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Volunteer work preaching da Good Kine Tings in Hawaiʻi Pidgin! When I'm not doing that, I'm playing pickleball, golf, board games or camping with the family.
Which one of KIUC’s Ho‘oka‘ana Waiwai shared values most resonates with you?
Kuleana has a special place in my heart as I believe we all have a responsibility to care for what's been entrusted to each one of us. For me, that is my faith, family and community.
