With 96% of Members Powered, KIUC Restoration Work Continues
Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) crews, supplemented by contractors and mutual aid partners, continued work today to restore remaining outages. Troubleshooters also addressed new outages not linked to Hurricane Lowell. As of this afternoon, 96% of KIUC members have been restored.
Outage Restoration Update:
Crews continue work on the remaining North Shore outages between Moloaa and Hanalei. Restoration work in this area is expected to continue over the next several days, with customers brought back online as individual repairs are completed. Because conditions and the extent of repairs vary by location, specific restoration estimates are not yet available for each remaining outage.
At the same time, KIUC crews and partner personnel continue working on scattered pocket outages between Kapa‘a and Kekaha.
Wainiha/Hā‘ena: Vegetation and debris clearing remains underway to provide crews safe access to damaged infrastructure. If clearing progresses as anticipated, repair work could begin this weekend. Based on current conditions, the best estimate is that restoration could begin toward the end of next week.
Kōke‘e: Vegetation and debris clearing also continues in Kōke‘e, where a substantial amount of work remains before repairs can safely begin. KIUC currently anticipates repair work could get underway sometime next week. It is still too early to provide an estimated restoration timeline for Kōke‘e.
Traffic and Safety Reminders:
Traffic Advisory: On Sunday 9/20, KIUC and mutual aid utility crews will be working along Kaumualii Highway between Knudsen Gap and Maluhia Road throughout the day, and this will require a full lane closure. Alternating traffic will be accommodated between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The public is advised to slow down and use caution when driving in the vicinity of crews working. Please ensure their safety as they work to restore power.
Utility Work Areas: Residents are reminded not to approach utility workers and/or enter their work area at any time. This will ensure the safety of our crews and the public. If you have questions about anything related to KIUC please call 808.246.4300 or send us an email at info@kiuc.coop.
