North Shore Restorations Help Boost Kaua‘i to 95% Energized

LĪHUʻE, KAUAʻI — Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) crews, supplemented by contractors and mutual aid partners, successfully restored roughly 1,500 members throughout the island on Thursday evening; including more than 1,000 in Kīlauea and surrounding areas. This brings Kaua‘i to 95% restored as of today.

Outage Restoration Update:

Crews will continue to work on remaining North Shore outages between Moloaa and Hanalei for the next several days. Customers will be restored as repairs are completed, but there is no specific estimate available for each remaining outage at this time.

Concurrently, KIUC and partners will be working to restore remaining pocket outages between Kapa‘a and Kekaha. 

Wainiha/Hā‘ena: Vegetation and debris clearing efforts continue and, if all goes well, repair work could begin this weekend. The best estimated timeline for restoration to begin in this area is the end of next week. 

Kōke‘e: Vegetation and debris clearing is underway in Kōke‘e and there is a substantial amount of work to be done. KIUC anticipates Kōke‘e repair work could begin sometime next week. There is no timeline at this point for restoration of Kōke‘e. 

Traffic and Safety Reminders:

Traffic Advisory: On Saturday 9/18, KIUC and mutual aid utility crews will be working along Kaumualii Highway between Knudsen Gap and Maluhia Road doing shoulder work throughout the day. No lane closures are expected. The public is advised to slow down and use caution when driving in the vicinity of crews working on road shoulders. Please ensure their safety as they work to restore power.

Note: KIUC has suspended collections activities for delinquent accounts. The timing of resumption of collections activities will be evaluated once Hurricane Lowell restoration is completed.
