Ten Days after the Storm, KIUC Has Restored Power to More Than 91% of Members

North Shore work

LĪHUʻE, KAUAʻI — Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) crews, supplemented by contractors and mutual aid partners, continue to address outages across the island, with more than 91% of members restored since Hurricane Lowell hit 10 days ago.

Outage Restoration Update:

KIUC, Premium Utility Contractor and Hawaiian Electric crews continue work to restore members without power from Moloaa to Hanalei, with focused effort today on energizing portions of Hanalei, Princeville and Kīlauea town. While uncertainty remains, at least some portions of Kīlauea Town could be energized this evening, with more restorations possible tomorrow.

KIUC and partners also continued prepping for repairs in Wainiha/Hā‘ena, with a focus today on debris removal and vegetation management in that area. Support for this effort was provided by the State of Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Highway Division, County of Kaua‘i Department of Public Works, Earthworks Pacific and Goodfellow Bros. LLC.

KIUC and mutual aid partner Southern California Edison continued addressing remaining spot outages in communities from Anahola to Kekaha and restoration planning for Kōke‘e, which remains without power.

We appreciate continued patience, especially as inclement weather is now becoming a factor and could impact the efficiency of restoration efforts.
